Ravensburger Witch Madness: Locations of Persecution

The conviction and burning of two women from Ravensburg in 1484 marked the beginning of the first systematic persecution of women as witches in Germany, carried out by the papal inquisitor Heinrich Institoris. During this tour, you will be confronted with the sites of witch persecution in Ravensburg: the Church of Our Lady, the Green Tower prison, the courtroom in the town hall, and the cabinet exhibition at the Humpis-Quartier Museum. Learn about the victims and perpetrators of the Ravensburg witch trial and the devastating impact of the Malleus Maleficarum, the work of inquisitor Heinrich Institoris. Tip: After the tour, explore the Humpis-Quartier Museum; admission is included in the ticket price.
