Tübingen Carnival Parade

It took about 400 years for festive life to return to the city of Tübingen. In 1565, Duke Christoph complained about the "murderous cries and uproar" in the city and promptly banned the "pagan nonsense." A certain Protestant aversion to merriment among the Tübingen population kept the revelers from parading through the streets and alleys of the old university town until 1996. Today, two weeks before Rose Monday, around 60 guilds with over 3,000 costumed participants make the old town lively from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM, including the Schloß-Ochsen and the Neid-Köpf, as well as many guilds from the region. The Rosecker Fasnetsclub and the Narrenzunft Tübingen take turns organizing the parade. This year, it is the turn of the Rosecker Fasnetclub. The parade moves from the Nonnenhaus through Hafengasse - Pfleghofstraße - Holzmarkt - Marktplatz - Marktgasse - Kornhausstraße - Krumme Brücke - to Jakobsgasse.
