Current special exhibition at the Humpis-Quartier Museum: Always Fresh! The Ravensburg Weekly Market September 26, 2025, to June 28, 2026 The Ravensburg Saturday Market is an attraction: It is not only a provider of fresh fruits and vegetables from the region but also a meeting point and ritual, a place for debates and demonstrations, and sometimes even a political issue – a cultural asset of the city. Therefore, the Humpis-Quartier Museum is dedicating an exhibition to the history and present of the market under the title "Always Fresh! The Ravensburg Weekly Market." The exhibition looks back on over 870 years of market history in Ravensburg. The earliest written sources testify to its beginnings in Upper Market Street and at Gänsbühl in the 12th century. The exhibition shows how the market expanded in the 14th century along with the city and shifted towards today's Marienplatz. There, the central market buildings, including the grain, weighing, and leather houses, as well as the newly built town hall, were established, which still shape the cityscape today. Until the 20th century, the weekly market expanded with the grain, livestock, and horse market across many streets and squares of the old town and remained the most important place for the supply of goods for daily needs for a long time. The exhibition also includes the present and showcases the work of today's market vendors from the field to the market stall. What defines our market today? How are the range of goods and shopping behaviors changing? What will the market of the future look like? Photos and film documents from the recent past, as well as a specially produced photo report and videos from the present, illustrate continuities and changes in the Ravensburg Weekly Market. Children and adults are invited to learn more, view historical photos and objects, and participate: both young and old can weigh with old scales, set prices, and send an apple on a world trip down a nine-meter-long marble run.
