Marktstraße 18, 74363 Güglingen

A time travel to the year 125 AD, when Emperor Hadrian led the Roman Empire into a period of prosperity. Themed tour with Frank Merkle at the Roman Museum Güglingen. A main focus of this themed tour will be how developments on a larger scale were also reflected at regional and local levels. During Hadrian's time, around 120 AD, the Vicus of Güglingen was also founded. Its Mithraeum II is furthermore the oldest datable structure of its kind. What makes the Hadrianic period special is that Emperor Hadrian successfully endeavored to consolidate the borders of the empire after the strong expansion phases of his predecessors. This led to a flourishing trade with prosperous goods traffic and considerable wealth. Just as the emperor himself undertook extensive travels, numerous traveling authors and intellectuals can also be found during his reign, who stimulated cultural exchange and the transfer of ideas. Emperor Hadrian surrounded himself in his private villa with representations from the mythological circle of the Odyssey, just as a wealthy landowner later did in women's quarters. The Vicus of Güglingen was also founded around 120 AD during Hadrian's time; its Mithraeum II is furthermore the oldest datable structure of its kind. Themed tour with Frank Merkle M.A. Cost: €4 per person for the tour plus reduced admission to the museum; holders of the Museums-PASS-Musées: free.
