Albstadt Shepherd Festival

On this special September weekend, everything in Albstadt revolves around sheep! Surrounded by the idyllic valleys, blooming juniper heaths, and vast meadows of the Swabian Jura, the Raichberg in Albstadt-Onstmettingen will once again become a hotspot for nature lovers and sheep enthusiasts. At the 20th Albstadt Shepherd Festival, we celebrate not only the traditions but also the wonderful nature and the importance of nature conservation in our region. The focus is on the sheep, their care, and the protection of their habitats – with a special emphasis on the children's program, as we celebrate World Children's Day on September 20th. Here, the little ones can learn more about the animals and nature in a playful way! The Albstadt shepherds will showcase their craft and explain how sheep are sheared. At the charcoal kiln demonstration, there will be exciting insights into the ancient craft of charcoal production. Of course, experts will also be present to inspire with valuable tips on nature conservation and the sustainable use of the region. There is plenty to discover for the whole family in the Kids Area – from a petting zoo to creative hands-on activities. The traditional shepherd and ram run will provide thrills, and the local music bands will set the right mood with their music. For a small snack in between, there will be plenty of delicious regional specialties. Celebrate two decades of the Shepherd Festival with us!
