The whole city is a single highlight! In 2025, eight cultural institutions in Schwäbisch Hall will celebrate their anniversaries and ignite a fireworks display of highlights for you. Schwäbisch Hall is celebrating. Join the festivities! Outstanding jazz art, a festive anniversary gala, Finnish crime readings, or modern classics on the steps: If you are not already a fan of our city and its diverse cultural offerings, you will surely become one from January to December 2025. In 2025, eight cultural institutions in Schwäbisch Hall will celebrate their anniversaries and present a spectacular array of highlights for you. Throughout the history of Schwäbisch Hall, culture and art have always played a significant role. The centuries-old salt production town likely originated in pre-Christian times when the Celts operated saltworks along the Kocher River, which flows through the city. Since then, the "white gold of the Middle Ages" and the "Heller" minted here have fostered the development and culture of the city. In addition to the historical cityscape, characterized by the marketplace surrounded by magnificent half-timbered and Renaissance buildings, it is primarily the people who bring the city to life that hold great importance. Through them, culture thrives in Hall! The cultural anniversary year in Schwäbisch Hall will celebrate eight cultural institutions in 2025 that are marking a special birthday. Their work and creativity actively shape the diverse cultural program in the city and make the hearts of the residents of Hall and all visitors soar. For 100 years, the Freilichtspiele Schwäbisch Hall association has brought the open-air theater stage on the 500-year-old steps in front of St. Michael to life every summer with its performances and outstanding acting. In this way, the association transforms the heart of the city into one of the most extraordinary stages in Europe with song, drama, theatrical art, and music. The WILDE MISCHUNG, as it is called, is the international youth theater festival of the Freilichtspiele Schwäbisch Hall e.V., which has been bringing together youth theater groups from around the world for 20 years. For one week, international youth participate in artistic workshops and present their results to the public at the end of the festival. Education and literature are two goods that are impossible to imagine being absent from today's everyday life. Their significance is continually reaffirmed to us through the books of the city library, some of which are over four centuries old. With 450 years of history, the city library has every reason to be proud. The volunteer editors of the free and local radio station StHörfunk have been broadcasting since the summer of 1995. In this way, they have been providing all interested citizens with free access to radio for listening, experimenting, and participating for 30 years. Almost all music genres are represented in the program, alongside a variety of themed shows, live recordings of concerts, and poetry slams. As a historical city, Schwäbisch Hall looks forward to an open-minded future. Currently, people from over 120 countries have found their new home in Hall, and for 60 years, the Goethe-Institut in Hall, the only one in a small town in Germany, has been teaching students from around the world the German language. The salt production roots of the city's history are ever-present in Schwäbisch Hall. The Große Siedershof Schwäbisch Hall of the Alt-Hall association has been preserving and passing down the customs and history of the city for 75 years. Thanks to it, the centuries-old tradition of salt production continues to thrive in Hall today, reminding us of the city's origins. In addition to the theater performances, puppets also captivate audiences on the stages of Hall. Gerhard's Marionette Theater, the largest and oldest puppet theater in Baden-Württemberg, has been delighting the eyes of young and old guests for 100 years. And after each performance, visitors can take a free look behind the scenes of the stage. Thanks to the six partner cities, Schwäbisch Hall can look far beyond its own borders. In 2025, the city will celebrate 40 years of partnership and friendship with the South Karelian city of Lappeenranta in Finland. Lappeenranta is known as a university city, an economic and cultural center, and a tourist hub in Southern Finland. Through these eight anniversary celebrants, the cultural anniversary year 2025 will be an extraordinary experience for the entire city, all residents, and all visitors. The collaborations between the anniversary celebrants will provide all visitors and long-term residents with a colorful supporting program throughout the year. The cultural strength of the Hall cultural institutions will be showcased in a concentrated form at the cultural anniversary festival from May 23 to 25, 2025.
