Explore the Calw art collections conveniently from home and on the go? No problem! Our on-site exhibitions in Calw are complemented by our virtual exhibitions, accessible worldwide and at any time. In the online exhibition "Richard Ziegler - Pleasure and Suffering in the Golden Twenties," you will travel 100 years back in time to an exciting era: the so-called "Golden Twenties." The insight into the foundation's collections showcases impressive testimonies of this fascinating period, as Richard Ziegler is very much in tune with the times, documenting both the light and shadow sides of the vibrant metropolis in Berlin. In line with his "idea of a whole," he depicts the "human being with their pleasures and sufferings." At the same time, the works on display reflect Richard Ziegler's artistic development and provide a cross-section of the diverse techniques of the painter, draftsman, and graphic artist, who exhibited in the 1920s alongside prominent figures like Otto Dix and George Grosz as part of the November Group. The virtual exhibition "Steppenwolf and Painter Friend. Gunter Böhmer Illustrates Hermann Hesse" tells the story of a special friendship: Gunter Böhmer meets Hermann Hesse in 1933 when the poet invites the young art student to his chosen home in Montagnola, Ticino. From then on, a friendship develops that lasts for several decades. Böhmer accompanies the poet through painting, creating impressive testimonies of Hermann Hesse's life and the landscape of Ticino. Additionally, he illustrated numerous works by the poet as well as international literary classics. Not least, this resulted in a remarkable series of images for one of Hermann Hesse's most famous and significant novels: "Steppenwolf." From April 13 to October 31, 2025, the Klostermuseum in Hirsau will showcase the new special exhibition "Eterno Elisio" by Rosario de Simone. A digital catalog with many exciting additional information about the works on display and the artist Rosario de Simone will be published alongside the exhibition. We will also provide a behind-the-scenes look. In preparation: In 2025, the art movement "New Objectivity" will celebrate its 100th anniversary. Three artists from the Calw collections - Rudolf Schlichter, Richard Ziegler, and Kurt Weinhold - painted in the style of New Objectivity and depicted people in a unique way. The digital exhibition "Of Mask-like Intensity - Female Representations in the Style of New Objectivity by Rudolf Schlichter, Kurt Weinhold, and Richard Ziegler" showcases confident women conquering the urban landscape, the light and shadow sides of the metropolis, and the end of an era. The link to the exhibition will be announced here shortly. Still not enough? Visit us on Instagram and Facebook as well!
