Café del Mundo and the Frankfurt Philharmonic present their own unique mix of great rock and pop hits, traditional works, and original compositions. Two chairs, two guitars, and two microphones – that’s all the two guitarists Jan Pascal and Alexander Kilian need to touch hearts, enchant audiences, sweep them off their feet, and unleash a multitude of emotions that transcend all boundaries. Café del Mundo plays a unique sound. Their finely tuned guitars radiate that southern joy of life from the very first note, celebrating life while also moving deeply – this is what guitar sounds like today! Two musicians, seemingly without a place in the conventional system, meet by chance at a workshop led by the twelve years older Kilian. They are very different, yet immediately connect, living their shared dream: to introduce their instrument, the Andalusian flamenco guitar, to audiences worldwide. This is followed by a decade of hard work, crossing the desert of niche music. Their breakthrough comes during the pandemic with their own sensitive yet energetic interpretations of classics from pop and film music. “Viva la Vida” initially receives 1.5 million views, while “Una Mattina” counts over 120 million streams on Instagram. They receive concert invitations from around the world. As artistic personalities, they are opposites: Alexander Kilian is regarded as a guitar prodigy, highly virtuosic, extroverted, and award-winning, often dancing over the rows of chairs. Jan Pascal is the poet with depth, meaning, and a sensitivity for the melodies of life. A concert by Café del Mundo is an experience, a meeting, a tribute to the great love of life, to the interconnectedness of all things and everyone, and to pure joy in the moment – “guitartainment” – just the way we love it.
