The exhibition showcases a selection from the over 800 graphics – primarily etchings and woodcuts – created by the Constance artist Jan Peter Thorbecke over the past 35 years. The representations are inspired by photographs found in German photo albums from the 1950s and 60s. They are vague memory images of family celebrations and outings. The artist's unique perception of these photographic documents reveals how deceptive the family idylls presented there can be. Behind the depiction of a perfect world lurks something uncanny. The poet Christine Zureich, who lives in Constance, has responded to Thorbecke's graphics. Her concise poems initially appear as small, playful notes at the edge of the album. However, upon closer inspection, the haikus reveal a deeper layer. A catalog featuring the exhibited graphics and texts will be published in conjunction with the exhibition.
