Welcome to the year 1868! It's me, Mariele. Officially, they call me Ana-Maria. In the begging books or the records of the reformatories, I am listed as a large, plump, and strong woman of uncertain age. I constantly have trouble with the "police" – so annoying! As a peddler, I am often suspected of engaging in covert begging, theft, or swindling. But I don’t just sneak along the borders of Baden and Württemberg; too often, I also tread the line of morality and legality. Social misfortune, naivety, or cunning? You can make your own judgment! I will take you into "the good old days" and the respective little town! I know about the everyday culture, the stories and tales of other women, their times, and the land and people. There is little I cannot answer for you. I have to, because I operate as a life artist with everything I have to get by. Whether as a peddler, quack doctor, or even as a wage servant for travelers... I strive with all my might and, upon request, even try to speak in the gentlemen's language! Do I always succeed? I love to chat in my own dialect, which I have cobbled together during my travels, because when you are in the "mobile trade," that is the only home you have. In difficult cases, I mediate, and a short trip can easily turn into a language course ;) In short: language, dialect, whether "Wüstgläubig" or "Rechtgläubig," Badisch or Unsymbadisch, I know the way! With hands and feet, with my heart in the right place, I ultimately find the right "means" for everyone, so that everyone is well!
