Buttenhausen was one of the few Jewish rural communities in southern Württemberg. The museum and the guided tour tell the story of life at that time, its history, and its end during the Nazi era. In 1787, the then local lord of Buttenhausen, Philipp Friedrich von Liebenstein, issued a protection letter for Jews, which allowed 25 Jewish families to settle there. The history of the Jewish community up to its end during the Nazi period is highlighted in the Jewish Museum, which was redesigned in 2013. Located on the first floor of the former Bernheim Secondary School, the exhibition explores the Jewish community and their life in Buttenhausen across five exhibition rooms.
