WKO x RIAS Chamber Choir - Arvo Pärt for his 90th Birthday

Chief conductor Risto Joost is particularly committed to highlighting the musical greats of his homeland – thus, he is dedicating an entire concert evening to Arvo Pärt in the anniversary year and at the beginning of the WKO season, together with the RIAS Chamber Choir. It all started with a battered piano: "When it was really bad, I just played silently and imagined a sound that was beautiful." This year, Arvo Pärt, who recounts his first musical attempts here, turns 90 years old. He is considered one of the most important and simultaneously popular creators of spiritual music today. With his very personal musical style, in which silence is one of the most important elements, he has succeeded in bringing spiritual music back into the awareness of a larger audience, even outside of church services. Chief conductor Risto Joost is particularly dedicated to highlighting the musical greats of his homeland, and so he is dedicating an entire concert evening to Pärt in the anniversary year and at the beginning of the WKO season, making important milestones in Pärt's search "for the one right note" audible. This endeavor is given a voice by the renowned RIAS Chamber Choir, with which the WKO is collaborating for the first time in this concert project.
