WKO x Pascal Schumacher - Minimal Vibes for Large Orchestra

The WKO dedicates its 10th subscription concert to the "underdog" of instruments and presents a concert featuring the award-winning Luxembourgish vibraphonist Pascal Schumacher, marking its German premiere. Swinging sound plates with a spooky effect: The vibraphone, constructed in the 1920s, has a pedal that makes the sound long and warm, as well as a small motor as an acoustic trick that allows it to vibrate and gives the instrument its name. Thus, the vibraphone can sound lyrical, avant-garde, but also eerie. Film composers recognized this early on and used it for thrilling scenes. The WKO now dedicates its 10th subscription concert to the "underdog" of instruments and, even more so, presents a concert in collaboration with the award-winning Luxembourgish vibraphonist and musical boundary-pusher Pascal Schumacher, featuring a piece written specifically for the soloist by American composer Judd Greenstein. Greenstein's musical language reaches its audience as a story, where the contrast between the driven, competing pulses of the streets of New York from his childhood and the tranquility of his current rural chosen home plays a crucial role. His work has been described as "beautiful and simultaneously thought-provoking." This newly created music is framed by a concert overture by the completely unjustly forgotten French composer, pianist, and musicologist Louise Farrenc, and the powerful 2nd Symphony by Johannes Brahms - the second part of Brahms' symphonic cycle.
