Rent a Friend

Sarah, a successful real estate developer, works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Her father has announced a visit after a long time and is eager to meet Sarah's fiancé. Too bad there isn't one. But that's exactly the kind of situation that the agency "Rent-a-friend" specializes in, renting out family members and friends for all occasions. Sarah has ordered a handsome man in his mid-fifties, a George Clooney type, who is supposed to pretend to be a successful plastic surgeon to her father. However, due to a mix-up, this guy is now stuck at a children's birthday party, and Sarah is faced with Gabriel, a much too young man in a skater look, who doesn't meet her expectations at all. There’s no time left for a swap, and besides, good-looking men over 50 are rare. In less than 20 minutes, Gabriel has to master the Superman biography of the supposed fiancé, learn some basics of plastic surgery on the side, and develop the most natural relationship with Sarah, whom he supposedly loves dearly. Just then, Big Daddy Karl arrives, accompanied by Juanita, a former Latin American beauty queen. He only wants the best for his daughter. Therefore, he thoroughly checks her future husband. Gabriel improvises desperately and struggles not to get lost in his web of lies. But what about the truthfulness of the guests? Folke Braband, a professional in boulevard theater, is not only a successful director but also an author. His comedy "Rent a Friend" deals with the theme of appearance versus reality in a turbulent, humorous, and charmingly touching way, exploring why we like to adorn ourselves with heroic stories instead of admitting our flaws and weaknesses.
