The ULM parade is a living tradition, vibrant city culture, and collective amazement. Around 8,000 mask-wearers parade through the festively decorated old town, accompanied by music, customs, and over 10,000 enthusiastic spectators. The ULM parade, the grand carnival procession in Ulm, always takes place three weeks before the actual carnival. With approximately 8,000 costumed participants and musicians from the Swabian-Alemannic region, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Austria, as well as more than 10,000 spectators along the roadside, it is the highlight of the Ulm carnival. The route of the ULM parade begins at Ulm Minster and leads through Schuhhausgasse, Judenhof, Karpfengasse, Hafengasse, Breite Gasse, Kornhausgasse, Bärengasse, Hafenbad, Herrenkellergasse, and Platzgasse to Münsterplatz. To provide the ULM parade with an appropriate backdrop, the route is decorated in a carnival style. At seven points along the route, visitors are introduced to the various carnival guilds and music groups with their carnival greetings, masks, and costumes.
