Those interested in the background of the Rauch Nativity Scene in St. Martin Meßkirch can find out more during a guided tour on Epiphany. With the nativity scene that Robert Rauch created in 1951, 75 years ago, for the church in Meßkirch, St. Martin possesses an extraordinary work of art. The monumental nativity scene was made by the artist from Mimmenhausen for the left side altar in 1951. Rising four meters high, the nativity structure extends up to the pulpit. The ensemble of the nativity scene includes 19 expressive large figures. For the anniversary year, the nativity scene will once again be crowned by a glass star, designed after the lost original by Robert Rauch. Who was the artist Robert Rauch, who left numerous works of art in the region? Who were the people who collected money for this nativity scene shortly after the war during a time of scarcity? How and from what materials was it made? What is special about this gem? What message does it hold for us today? And what connections can be made to other Christmas representations in the church, such as the Three Kings painting by the Master of Meßkirch?
