WKO x Dominik Wagner & Georg Breinschmid - Double Bass in a Duo

Two musicians, two double basses – a whole world of sound. Classical music tradition meets refreshing bass riffs when ECHO Klassik award winner Dominik Wagner encounters the most famous Austrian musician as well as the most surprising contemporary composer across all styles and genres. Alongside Breinschmid's "Concerto for 2 Double Basses," a commissioned work for the WKO, Giovanni Bottesini, nothing less than the Paganini of the double bass, presents THE work for the largest of all string instruments, his Concerto No. 1. The double bass virtuosos are programmatically framed by string orchestra sounds: Heino Eller, a professor at the Tallinn Conservatory, trained many Estonian composers and is considered one of the founders of Estonian chamber music with his Nordic-fresh sound. Edvard Grieg's Suite "From Holberg's Time" was created for the 200th anniversary of the Danish-Norwegian poet Ludvik Holberg. It is regarded, alongside the string serenades of Dvořák and Tchaikovsky, as the third major string orchestra work of late Romanticism.
