The literary-musical matinee is dedicated to the Jewish poetess Mascha Kaléko, who passed away in Zurich 50 years ago. In her timeless poems, Kaléko addressed the fundamental experiences of being human: love, hope, doubt, and loss.

Born in 1907, Mascha Kaléko became known in Berlin during the 1920s with her cheerful-melancholic verses. In them, she reflects the spirit of her time as well as her personal longings and experiences. In 1938, Kaléko emigrated to New York with her husband and son, where she experienced linguistic and existential insignificance as a German-speaking poet, along with great poverty. After World War II, she attempted to start anew in Germany, and later in Israel - yet she remained homeless. All these experiences are reflected in her poems.
