In September of this year, a special project of our association is starting: the "Lake Constance Water Relay 2025" – a 7-day relay run that makes the journey of our drinking water from Lake Constance to the north of Baden-Württemberg tangible. START: on September 22, 2025, in Sipplingen.
With the Lake Constance Water Relay, the Lake Constance Water Supply makes the path and value of drinking water tangible: In a 7-day relay run, we follow the pipeline network – from the source to the north of the state.
■ What: Participatory relay run of the Lake Constance Water Supply (non-commercial), on foot and by bicycle; information booths at intermediate stations
■ Who: "Water carriers" and companions can be anyone: families, clubs, celebrities, politicians, and many more.
■ Notable water carriers: Extreme athlete Jonas Deichmann with a community run on Day 1
■ When: September 22–28, 2025 (Monday to Sunday), each day from approximately 8 AM to 5 PM
■ Where: From Sipplingen to Bad Mergentheim (approximately 300 km). Stations include Sigmaringen, Reutlingen, Metzingen, Nürtingen, Esslingen, Stuttgart, Ludwigsburg & Heilbronn
■ How long: Daily several segments between 10-17 km with intermediate stations; a total of about 30-40 km per day
Your chance to participate! Here comes the best part: You can join in! Whether on foot or by bicycle – we are looking for committed "water carriers" from among our association members: employees of local utilities, citizens, clubs, schools... Anyone can participate, alone or in a team. Run a segment and become part of this special initiative. All participants will receive cool extras like an exclusive running shirt and additional surprises at the finish lines. The run not only offers a great opportunity to challenge yourself physically but also to strengthen team spirit. We look forward to every participation!
Background: What is water worth to us? With the Lake Constance Water Relay, we make visible what often remains hidden: Day by day and around the clock, our drinking water flows through hundreds of kilometers of pipelines – from Lake Constance to our households. And because our bodies are largely made up of water, it follows that we ourselves consist to a considerable extent of Lake Constance water. It takes seven days for the water to travel from the lake to the north of the supply area. We symbolically cover this distance: On foot and in stages, we will therefore carry a small amount of water from Lake Constance to Bad Mergentheim over seven days. Our goal: In dialogue with citizens, we want to raise awareness of the value of water in times of climate change and increasing drought. This way, we make tangible what investments are necessary to ensure that water continues to come from the tap in the future – safely, cleanly, and reliably.
The Lake Constance Water Relay will be accompanied by:
■ Information booths at the start, finish, and intermediate stations
■ Press events and
■ A social media campaign.
