Museum tour: Tour of the neighborhood

This guided tour is an engaging journey of discovery through nearly 1,000 years of neighborhood and city history. After a brief introduction to the neighborhood in the courtyard, you’ll learn about three former residents of the late-medieval Humpis Quarter and their way of life.  Following in the footsteps of Hans Humpis, you’ll explore his elegant living quarters on the first floor of the building complex and be fascinated by the Europe-wide trade of the Ravensburg trading company in the 15th century. The network of Upper Swabian long-distance traders extended as far as Venice, Genoa, and Barcelona.  The attic is the next stop; there, the tanner Johannes Wucherer—a typical guild craftsman of the religiously diverse city of Ravensburg—hung his hides out to dry. Here you’ll also find the wooden guild plaques that have been preserved in Ravensburg to this day.  Finally, the path leads through the inner courtyard to the arcades, where, in the former dining rooms of innkeeper Gottfried Rösch, visitors are introduced to the age of industrialization, the rise of the bourgeoisie, and the emergence of the first democratic ideas.
