Lecture and book presentation "Helene and Karl. Karl and Frida. Family Chronicle 1896–1948 in 100 Image Documents" by Peter Wanner

Every family is special, and every family story has its peculiarities. Historian Peter Wanner has written a book about his family that combines classic family history writing with literary autofiction. In his book, he initially focuses on his four grandparents, all born in the 1880s, and traces their lives until 1948, the year of his parents' wedding, through five decades of German history that deeply shape the fate of this family. The book is formally structured: a photo sets the theme, a factual text provides context and contextualizes the family-specific aspects, and a fictional monologue or dialogue, sometimes including quotes from letters and other records, brings the story to life. The setting is Heilbronn and its surroundings, and alongside family images, contemporary photos also provide the illustrative background. The evening will be moderated by Dr. Andreas Meyer, former headmaster of the Mönchsee-Gymnasium Heilbronn and a member of the board of Diaphania.
