Fire blazes, sparks fly, glowing discs fly down the slopes of the Bernau high valley. "Schiibi, Schiibo! Who should the disc go to? It should go to "the beloved"! If it doesn't go, it's not valid. Schiibi, Schiibo!
The caller takes a long swing, dedicates his disc to a loved one, and slams it powerfully over a wooden block into the valley. The wooden discs burn up, leaving their traces in the winter evening sky. This Black Forest tradition of light, which bids farewell to winter, is widespread in the Black Forest.
An integral part of the Alemannic Fasnacht carnival are the disc fires, which blaze day after day for a week (except Ash Wednesday) in Bernau, from which glowing discs are hurled into the valley.
