From here, he sets off with a friend heading south: over the limestone waves of the Steinernes Meer, the green Hundstein, the icy Tauern, to the gateway to South Tyrol at Gsieser Törl, into the bizarre Dolomites, and further to the gentle Judicarian mountains. They hike over snowfields and alpine meadows, past reservoirs and quaint mountain villages, along high paths, streams, and peaks, from hut to hut, always towards the sun. The destination is Italy's largest inland lake, Lake Garda. Surrounded by Mediterranean charm, in the shade of cypress and olive trees, they want to enjoy a glass of red wine by the lakeside on a warm summer evening and let their journey come to a close.
