Open-Air Museum Hessenpark: Advent in the Museum

The marketplace is atmospherically lit, St. Nicholas brings small gifts to the children, the scents of mulled wine and waffles waft through the village street, and roasted almonds, candied fruits, Baumstriezel, crepes, cheese spaetzle, and bratwurst ensure that no one goes home hungry. At selected market stalls, beautiful gift items, Christmas decorations, crocheted goods, handmade items, jewelry made of gold and silver, lambskins, and home accessories can be found. The leased shops around the marketplace also offer Christmas items and gifts.

In the courtyard from Nieder-Gemünden, the farmer's family is preparing for Christmas, at the registry office, fairy tales and stories about Christmas are told on the first and third Advent weekends, and in the schoolhouse from Frickhofen, the young teacher shares information about Christmas traditions. On the upper floor, there is the exhibition "Every Day a Door," showcasing various Advent calendars from 1900 to the present. Here, not only classic picture calendars but also figure calendars, rotating calendars, slot calendars, and of course, chocolate calendars can be discovered. In the bakery from Probbach, fresh gingerbread comes out of the oven, and for children, there is a colorful hands-on program: they can create Christmas decorations in various designs, print wrapping paper, or fold boxes.

The hands-on activities and demonstrations take place from 11 AM to 5 PM.
