Uplandsteig Hiking Marathon

Every year in May, the Upländer Gebirgsverein hosts its Uplandsteig hiking marathon. The route is predetermined, consisting of the 66 km long UPLANDSTEIG, which is certified by the German Hiking Association, featuring stunning views and a very varied course.

Hikers who choose the ultra hiking marathon will tackle a distance of 68 km, thus covering the entire Uplandsteig. This is a significant challenge, as along with the distance, there are approximately 1,500 meters of elevation to overcome. The start for this group is early in the morning at 6:00 AM at the visitor center in Willingen.

Hikers who wish to take on the 42 km hiking marathon will start at 8:30 AM.

The half marathon, with a total distance of 21 km, begins at 10:30 AM.

The aforementioned times for the two "shorter" distances are the departure times of the buses from the visitor center that will take the hikers to their respective starting points. The finish line for all three groups is then back at the visitor center in Willingen, which closes at 8:00 PM. There are ample parking spaces available at the visitor center.

It is explicitly noted that the event is not a competition, and therefore, there will be no timing. Only individuals with appropriate fitness levels should participate. If anyone runs out of breath for any reason during the event, a smooth return transfer is ensured.

Along the route, a total of 5 control and refreshment points will be set up where participants can replenish themselves with drinks, fruit, muesli, and cake. Additionally, participants of the ultramarathon and marathon will receive warm meals.

The participation fee is €30.00 per person for the ultramarathon and marathon, and €25.00 for the half marathon distance. This price includes refreshments, transfer, a certificate, and a memento of participation. Please pay the participant fee in cash on the day of the event.
