The history of the former Benedictine abbey dates back to the year 734. Originally built in the Romanesque-Gothic style, it was replaced and expanded about 1,000 years later by opulent Baroque buildings. The magnificently decorated abbey church, with its massive and resonant Baroque organ, astonishes visitors just as much as the early Neoclassical Green Hall or the intricately designed monastery library. Since 1803, the abbey has been owned by the princely house of Leiningen, where it has been maintained and preserved over the years.
