About one third of people diagnosed with blood cancer find a stem cell donor within their own family. However, most rely on finding their "genetic twin" somewhere in the world. Perhaps you are the right "match" for someone who will soon need your help. In Germany, a person receives the devastating diagnosis of blood cancer every 12 minutes, and globally, this happens every 27 seconds. Blood cancer remains the most common form of cancer in children. Many patients cannot survive without a life-saving stem cell donation. The search for suitable donors always begins a race against time. The faster a "match" is found, the greater the chances of survival. DKMS, the German Bone Marrow Donor Center, is a non-profit organization dedicated to registering stem cell donors to improve the chances of recovery for blood cancer patients worldwide. The organization is active in Germany and has locations in the USA, Poland, the UK, Chile, India, and South Africa. The relevant data of potential donors is entered into a global search registry. Each entry thus gives someone hope for healing and a second chance at life.
