UNDERSTANDING PEACE LOGIC – BECOMING PEACEFUL

Deutsche Zentrale für Tourismus e.V.

Hauptstraße 78, 79379 Müllheim im Markgräflerland

Lecture and Discussion Evening with Prof. Dr. Hanne-Margret Birckenbach (Peace and Conflict Researcher) How should peace be conceptually understood today so that non-violent conflict resolution does not collide with the pursuit of security? How can peace function under the conditions of a politicized and globalized world? The speaker presents the concept of peace logic as an alternative to security logic, where the will for peace is achieved through armament and military threats. Her approach is to enable broader participation, to make the relevance of the key category of peace understandable for security and human rights policy as well as for development cooperation, and to encourage the application of these principles. Prof. Dr. Hanne-Margret Birckenbach, born in 1948, studied philosophy, German studies, and sociology in Tübingen and Frankfurt (Main), received her doctorate in political science at FU Berlin, habilitated in sociology with a focus on peace and conflict research in Bielefeld, and is a trained mediator. She worked at the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy in Hamburg, at the universities of Kiel and Bremen, and until 2012 as a professor of European Studies and Peace and Conflict Research at the University of Gießen. She now lives in Hamburg and is the recipient of the Göttingen Peace Prize 2023. Organizer: DGB District Association Markgräflerland FREE ENTRY The event takes place on the occasion of the Markgräfler Peace Weeks.
