The Hausherrenfest has a tradition dating back over 300 years: it has been celebrated every year on the third Sunday in July since 1725. The festival has its origins in the veneration of Saints Theopont, Senesius, and Zeno, whose relics have been kept in Radolfzell since the 9th and 11th centuries. As a result, the town developed early on into an important place of pilgrimage on Lake Constance. Today, the Hausherrenfest is an integral part of urban life and strengthens the sense of home and community. Many Radolfzell residents return to their hometown for this occasion. In addition to secular festivities, the highlight remains the solemn procession on Hausherren Sunday with the relics of the three patron saints. A special custom is the Mooser water procession, which dates back to a vow made in 1796. At that time, the people of Moos in Radolfzell asked for protection from a cattle plague. Since 1926, they have made an annual pilgrimage across the lake on Hausherrenmontag (Householder Monday) in boats decorated with flowers. In Radolfzell, the pilgrims are welcomed with a ceremony and accompanied to the Cathedral of Our Lady.
