Sigrid Katharina Eismann reads from her new novel "My Inner Black Forest." Moderation: Hubert Matt-Willmatt. In her novel "My Inner Black Forest," Sigrid Katharina Eismann brings to life the dramatic fate that befell 27 Hotzen families from the Southern Black Forest in 1755 when they were deported to the Banat in present-day Romania. The free farmers rose up against the oppression by the church and the crown. Inspired by Salpeter-Hans, a saltpeter maker and leader of the movement, "Salpeter" became synonymous with resistance against abuse of power in the Hotzenwald. In her unique style, Eismann, herself a descendant of the "restless saltpeter makers," intertwines historical events with recent and contemporary episodes. Parallels to the history of the Hotzen can also be found in the biography of the first-person narrator, who explores the changing landscape of today's Timișoara. Sigrid Katharina Eismann, born in 1964 in Timișoara (Romania), is an author, artist, and translator. She emigrated to West Germany with her family in 1981. Sigrid Katharina Eismann lives in the Rhine-Main region and is actively involved in the local cultural scene. The Winterhalter Association looks forward to your visit!
