Heike Pillemann - Thinking with the Eyes

Under the title "Thinking with the Eyes," master craftsman Wolfgang Huber presents an extensive exhibition of the Munich-based artist Heike Pillemann (1958) in his showroom in Kißlegg. Visitors gain insight into a diverse body of work that is presented in a compelling manner within the spacious exhibition rooms. Large-format drawings, predominantly in black and white, are contrasted with more subdued, almost monochrome scratch drawings. Ceramics, book objects, and fragile mobiles create a dynamic interplay with the vividly colored reverse glass images due to their differing materiality. Throughout, the structure, color, and texture of the materials used play a crucial and defining role in the artwork. Despite the seriousness inherent in the pieces, humor, a sense of play, and the joy of visual storytelling, as well as a love for words and word images, remain essential characteristics of the exhibited works. The drawings seem to stem from the artist's intrinsic impulse to capture and hold onto a fleeting impression or moment, where chance plays as significant a role as an originally intended image concept. This balance, which accompanies the creative process up to the "finished" piece, inspired the title of this exhibition.
