Baroque special

The oldest known view of Achberg Castle will be unveiled in a ceremony. It is a 300-year-old oil painting that was acquired by the Ravensburg district in 2025. Following its restoration, it is now returning to the foyer of Achberg Castle.  To mark this anniversary, we invite the Friends of Achberg Castle to a very special evening reception: The oldest view of Achberg Castle will be ceremoniously unveiled in the inner courtyard. It is a 300-year-old oil painting that was acquired by the Ravensburg district in 2025. Following its restoration, it is now returning permanently to the foyer of Achberg Castle after 300 years. The painting depicts Achberg Castle immediately after its extensive Baroque renovation between 1693 and 1700 under Franz Benedikt von Baden, Land Commander of the Teutonic Order. It reveals a whole range of architectural details that were unknown for a long time, including Baroque spiral gables, stables, outbuildings, and gardens. The ensemble GAMBELIN, featuring Anna Zimre (viola da gamba) and Christian Ellin (soprano saxophone, bass clarinet), provides the perfect musical backdrop in the atmospheric inner courtyard of the castle: two instruments that have never met before—bass clarinet/saxophone and viola da gamba. Two musical styles separated by three centuries of music history: Renaissance and Baroque music meet jazz and modern music. A concert like a whirlpool, an immersion into a world of sound that can no longer be adequately described by styles but rather makes one forget them. For this special occasion, the concert takes place in the castle courtyard, inspiring enthusiasm for the music from the heyday of the Baroque gem that is Achberg Castle. The connection between past and present is particularly fitting. It is a dynamic interplay in which the living cultural monument that is Achberg Castle also finds its place. To ensure that younger visitors to the castle can also immerse themselves in this music, the ensemble will offer a brief preview of its music in the afternoon.
