Ceremonial unveiling of the oldest view of Achberg

The oldest view of Castle Achberg is ceremoniously unveiled. It is a 300-year-old oil painting that was acquired by the district of Ravensburg in 2025. After its restoration, it is now returning permanently to the foyer of Castle Achberg after 300 years. On the occasion of the anniversary, we invite friends of Castle Achberg to a very special evening reception: The oldest view of Castle Achberg will be ceremoniously unveiled in the inner courtyard. This 300-year-old oil painting was acquired by the district of Ravensburg in 2025. After its restoration, it is now returning permanently to the foyer of Castle Achberg after 300 years. The painting depicts Castle Achberg immediately following its extensive Baroque transformation between 1693 and 1700 under the German Order's land commander Franz Benedikt von Baden. It reveals a number of architectural details that have long been unknown, including Baroque snail gables, stables, and outbuildings, as well as garden layouts. The musical framework in the atmospheric castle courtyard will be provided by the ensemble GAMBELIN, featuring Anna Zimre (viola da gamba) and Christian Ellin (soprano saxophone, bass clarinet): two instruments that have never met before: bass clarinet/saxophone and viola da gamba. Two musical styles are separated by three centuries of music history: Renaissance or Baroque music meets jazz and modernity. The ensemble GAMBELIN does not merely juxtapose these styles; their program creates something entirely new: a concert that feels like a current, immersing the audience in a sound world that cannot be adequately described by styles, but rather makes them forget about them. The concert will take place in the castle courtyard for this special occasion, engaging audiences with the music from the heyday of the Baroque gem, Castle Achberg. The connection between past and present is particularly fitting, creating a tension in which the vibrant cultural monument of Castle Achberg also exists. To ensure that younger visitors to the castle can also immerse themselves in this music, the ensemble will offer a small preview of their music in the afternoon.
