The concert evening is themed: The Funky Side of Jazz. The trio has taken on the music of pianist Ramsey Lewis. Club music from the 1960s. Entertaining, danceable, and funky with songs by Lennon/McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, and many more. The Funky Side of Jazz - the music of Ramsey Lewis (and others). "The In Crowd" is a title by pianist Ramsey Lewis, which surprisingly shot to number 5 in the US singles charts in 1965. At number 1 was Yesterday by the Beatles! This was followed by more hits from the Ramsey Lewis Trio such as Wade In The Water, A Hard Day’s Night, and Hang On Sloopy. The distinctive Ramsey Lewis sound is not necessarily made for concert halls, but for clubs and bars: entertaining, danceable, funky – "the people’s music," as they say. Or as people from the Palatinate would say: "Jazz for the folks." The main musical ingredients: soul jazz, blues, gospel, Latin, and the timeless songs of Lennon/McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Carole King, or Burt Bacharach. The trio led by Thomas Wind (piano), with Fritz Heieck on double bass and Christian Maurer on drums, is completely dedicated to this Sixties groove.
