Dachstein - On the Trails of Glacier Researchers and Bible Smugglers

The winter lecture series of the DAV Section Sigmaringen begins with a slide presentation by Bettina Haas. "In the heart of Austria, in the Salzkammergut region, rise the majestic Dachstein Mountains and the distinctive backdrop of the Gosaukamm. This area holds a special position not only geologically—due to its karst formations and rugged rock ridges—but also historically. The Dachstein gained fame through its explorer Friedrich Simony, who documented the entire mountain range in the mid-18th century and even took photographs later on. The region has always exerted a special fascination on people, as many myths and stories are intertwined with it. Hike with the two photographers along the paths of Bible smugglers and glacier researchers through the UNESCO World Heritage site of Dachstein." Admission is based on donations.
