For many years now, artists and art lovers have been eagerly awaiting the second Advent with great expectations. That's when the Bisinger Christmas market opens, offering them the opportunity to present their exhibits to a knowledgeable audience or – conversely – to purchase unusual and unique gifts, eye-catching items, or decorations for loved ones, themselves, or their homes. The market can look back on a unique success story. Its basic concept has not changed since its inception in 1987 – and that is precisely its recipe for success. Small and cozy, it saw the light of day with just a handful of craft stalls and a single obligatory mulled wine stand. It was a modest attempt to bring some pre-Christmas spirit to the parish. However, the concept quickly met with widespread approval. The market became known to more and more enthusiasts and grew to an impressive size in a short time. Today, it occupies the entire town center, including the market square, the church forecourt, and the main street. It could grow even further, but that is not the intention, nor is it desired. Quality over quantity is its motto. This sets it apart from events in neighboring communities that bear the same name, "Christmas market." It repeatedly earns praise for being the most beautiful of its kind far and wide. Its excellent reputation extends from Stuttgart to Lake Constance and from Freiburg to Ulm. Every year on the second Sunday of Advent, it attracts several thousand visitors to Bisingen from this catchment area. Exhibitors in particular appreciate the lack of commercial hype and the atmosphere that is in keeping with the pre-Christmas spirit. Visitors, in turn, praise the quality of the handicrafts, the originality, and the remarkable variety of items on offer. Shop talk, curious chats, and mutual inspiration also characterize the atmosphere that gives the Bisingen market its special touch. The organizers are almost tempted to do without advertising altogether. Word of mouth and collegial grapevine have long since taken care of that, both among the exhibiting artisans and among art-loving visitors. The sales period on December 8 begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m. Mayor Roman Waizenegger has taken on the patronage of the event.
