For over thirty years, actor Lars Eidinger has been capturing reality, first with an SLR camera and later with his smartphone. With an eye for the extraordinary, he depicts reality as it is: a stone nymph without hands by the side of the road, geometrically trimmed trees and hedges, or passers-by who look like doppelgangers.
Eidinger's seemingly casual, one-to-one snapshots and scenes not only provide immediate and unadulterated information about the human condition, but also reveal the deeper layers of Western affluent society, allowing the existential emotions, needs, and rituals of contemporary humans to be expressed without distortion. Under the title PRESENT PERFECT, the Kunsthalle, in close collaboration with the artist, not only presents Lars Eidinger's photographs and videos, but also brings selected groups of works from his visual anthropology into dialogue with works by other artists.
In this thematically structured presentation, photographs by Lars Eidinger are shown for the first time alongside exhibits from the Kunsthalle Tübingen collection. Since the 1970s, the in-house collection has been successively expanded with permanent loans and now comprises around 500 works from the 1960s to the present day, in addition to works by the artist Georg Friedrich Zundels. In addition to works by Lars Eidinger, the exhibition features works by Gilbert and George, Yves Klein, Franz Erhard Walther, Katja Strunz, Ben Willikens, and others.
