Lars Eidinger. PRESENT PERFECT

For over thirty years, actor Lars Eidinger has captured reality first with a reflex camera and later with his smartphone. With an eye for the extraordinary, he presents reality as it is: a stone nymph without hands by the roadside, geometrically shaped trees and hedges, or passersby in doppelgänger looks. The seemingly casual snapshots and scenes captured one-to-one by Eidinger provide immediate and unfiltered insight not only into the conditio humana but also reveal, en passant, deeper layers of Western affluent society, allowing existential emotions, needs, and rituals of contemporary humans to be expressed without distortion. Under the title PRESENT PERFECT, the Kunsthalle, in close collaboration with the artist, presents not only the photographs and videos of Lars Eidinger but also brings selected groups of his visual anthropology into dialogue with works by other artists. In this thematically structured presentation, photographs by Lars Eidinger meet for the first time with exhibits from the collection of the Kunsthalle Tübingen. The in-house collection has been gradually expanded with long-term loans since the 1970s and now includes around 500 works from the 1960s to the present, alongside pieces by the artist Georg Friedrich Zundel. Among the works on display, in addition to those by Lars Eidinger, are pieces by: Gilbert and George, Yves Klein, Franz Erhard Walther, Katja Strunz, Ben Willikens, and others.
