"Bartenwetzer Culinary Hike"

The Bartenwetzer Gourmet Hike starts at the forest swimming pool in Melsungen and leads along narrow paths through the city forest.

In the Middle Ages, lumberjacks ventured into the city forest with their "Barten" (Old German for axe) to chop wood for heating and various crafts. Around 1900, a sanatorium for lung diseases was established on the southern slope of the city forest, where railway employees could be treated for respiratory ailments. During this time, a variety of hiking trails and shelters were created, some of which can still be found in the city forest today. Part of the treatment involved outdoor activity, and there are still some memorial plaques at the "Schlangenhäuschen." There is also art to be admired on this tour, as the art path Ars Natura runs through the city forest along the Barbarossa Trail X8. Start and End: Parking lot at the forest swimming pool, Dreuxallee 35, 34212 Melsungen
Length: approx. 6 kilometers – easy with a few ascents
Duration: approx. 3 hours.
Refreshments: Coffee & cake included in the price. Please bring water for the hike.
Minimum number of participants: 8 people; I reserve the right to cancel the hike if there are fewer registrations.

The invoice and all important details about the tour will be sent to you after the registration deadline. Please transfer the participation fee in advance of the tour. Cash payment on site is not possible.
