Gourmet Hiking Tour "Lifeline Eder"
Prehistoric finds testify that people settled in the Eder floodplains. These finds can be admired at the Archaeological Museum in Gensungen and the Hessian State Museum in Kassel. The Working Group for Prehistory and Early History Gensungen e.V. is dedicated not only to preserving the museum but also to making archaeology tangible along the established archaeological paths. On this circular hike, we trace the history all the way to the Middle Ages.
We start the gourmet hike Lifeline Eder at the Museum Gensungen and mentally immerse ourselves in the time of our early ancestors. From the archaeology path, we discover several excavation sites and hike to the Old Charterhouse, a monastery from the 13th century that secured the Salt Road. Now we ascend to the Holy Mountain, which was already inhabited during the Iron Age. The view from up here is so impressive that we want to enjoy it for a while. Therefore, we settle down for a picnic and savor regional delicacies, such as wine from Böddiger Berg. We can even see the village of Böddiger from up here. It doesn’t get more local than this. Vegetarians are also catered for, as there will be bread, cheese, and pickled vegetables. Well-fortified, we hike back to the museum, which can be visited after the hike.
