Outside he is 50, inside he feels 20, and he wonders, "When does life finally begin?" But then the "Personal Pension Information" lands in his mailbox again. The newly minted best ager has calculated: if he retires at 67, he can live quite comfortably off it for eleven days. That’s why he hopes for an increase in the bottle deposit. He also thinks about the denial of his own demise, missed opportunities, and the increasing calmness that comes with age, how a new ethics of aging should look—where economic factors play a role, but do not take center stage—and which language he should learn best to communicate with his caregiver later on.
