Benznickel Market Neustadt

The Benznickel Market is the well-known Christmas market in Breuberg Neustadt. It takes place annually on the Saturday before the first Advent in the wonderful festive atmosphere of the historic marketplace in the city center of Neustadt. In the late evening, the Benznickel, the Breuberg incarnation of Saint Nicholas, arrives and brings all the children a delicious Spitzweck (a type of sweet bread). The children watch in rapt attention and with a bit of awe at the figure, dressed in a gray cloak, with a beard and a rattling chain. The Benznickel Market always has a rich program, featuring choirs, poetry readings, live Christmas music, brass music, an exhibition, and many delicious treats.

The Benznickel Market has been held since 1975 and is organized by the children of the Breuberg School and the Breuberg kindergartens, with poetry recitations and the exhibition "Toys Under the Christmas Tree." The Breuberg musicians and the choir from the Breuberg School provide the festive musical entertainment.

While enjoying various delicious treats, especially mulled wine, hot apple juice, waffles, potato pancakes, pretzels, fish sandwiches, chestnuts, pizza pockets, flaming punch, and bar service, you can experience a wonderful pre-Christmas day. At our numerous market stalls, you have the opportunity to purchase your first Christmas gifts. Children can spend their time in our supervised crafting corner, making Christmas-themed items.
