5. Philosophical Conversation: Aesthetics and Rhetoric of Money

The Hegau Museum invites all philosophy enthusiasts to an evening full of exchange of ideas and music. Under the theme "Aesthetics and Rhetoric of Money," Prof. Dr. Gottfried Gabriel will take visitors on a journey into the imagery of German currency. Money is an abstract medium of exchange. It has been used as a means of payment since prehistoric times. But what does the aesthetics of the material reveal about history? What role do the symbols used play in rhetoric? Prof. Dr. Gottfried Gabriel has traced the imagery of German money back to the 19th century. The "Philosophical Conversation" is part of a series organized by the Singen Museum Association e.V. Participation through questions from attendees is encouraged. The conversation will be led by: Prof. Dr. Gottfried Gabriel. Since 1968, Prof. Dr. Gabriel has been teaching at the University of Konstanz, becoming an associate professor in 1982. From 1995 to 2009, he held the chair in Logic and Philosophy of Science at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. Wolfgang Trautwein, as the first chairman of the Singen Museum Association and founder of the lecture series "Philosophical Conversation," will take on the role of moderator. The event will be accompanied by music.
