"Lift up the door, make the gate wide" – What our Advent songs tell us

An evening with a view of the Singing Christmas Tree in Waldkirch for listening, reflection, and singing along with Prof. Dr. Meinrad Walter, musicologist, and Stephan Rahn, district cantor. As a kickoff to Advent, a contemplative hour with well-known songs for listening, reflection, and singing along. We will hear exciting stories about their origins as musicologist and theologian Meinrad Walter provides insights into the words and music. Why does the song "Es kommt ein Schiff geladen" lead us to a monastery in Strasbourg? And why did Georg Friedrich Handel's "Tochter Zion, freue dich!" first resonate in a London opera house and then in the familiar German version in a salon in Erlangen? But playing and singing will not be overlooked. Under the direction of district cantor Stephan Rahn, we will sing together to experience the songs even more intensely.
