Host Wolfgang Heim was until summer 2022 the moderator of the popular SWR format "Leute" and thus a fixture of German radio journalism. In keeping with this legendary talk format, Wolfgang Heim now meets famous and important contemporaries in Salon3, who have something to say about the relevant issues of our time. As in his over 3000 radio interviews, Wolfgang Heim also stands out in the live format for his uniquely sensitive approach, marked by great expertise, in questioning his guests. On December 11, the internationally esteemed neurobiologist Prof. Hannah Monyer will be a guest on HeimSpiel. The medical director of the Department of Clinical Neurobiology at Heidelberg University Hospital has dedicated herself to the study of memory. How does our memory work? What do we store? What do we discard? How do we deal with traumatic experiences? When do our memories serve us well and why? What happens to our brain as we age? How can we prevent Alzheimer’s and dementia? She became known to a wide audience with her book "The Brilliant Memory – How the Brain Makes Our Future from the Past." Hannah Monyer also investigates whether smartphones and the internet can pose a threat to our memory. Her warning: The brain shuts down unused synapses. And what is once gone is gone. For the brain, it’s: Use it or lose it. She has received many awards and honors for her research and findings.
