We hike along the southernmost point of the Swabian Jura Biosphere Reserve by the Danube and arrive at the shortest tributary of the Danube, leading us to a mysterious spring area with a deep blue spring pot. We follow the Danube past the Obermarchtal Monastery to the Alfredstal hydroelectric power station and let ourselves be impressed by the power of water. At the Danube hydroelectric power station, we witness how environmentally friendly electricity is generated from water. The hydroelectric power station in Alfredstal has been in operation for over 100 years and still has one of three turbines that operates with a wooden gear wheel as its runner. A natural monument that is unlikely to be seen elsewhere.
