We experience how charcoal is made by one of the last charcoal burners of the Swabian Jura. Once a year, the charcoal burner still stacks his kiln here to produce charcoal in the traditional way. Passion and tradition are closely intertwined here. Charcoal burning is an almost extinct craft. We witness how the charcoal burner monitors his kiln every 2 hours, day and night, for 10 days, living in the charcoal hut to ensure the burning process goes smoothly. We learn how important the charcoal burner was in the past; it was a significant craft profession. Charcoal burning played an important role for centuries in the past. Nowadays, a charcoal kiln is only built and ignited twice a year. Münzdorf is a small village in the Jura with its own village history.
