"‘I Interrupt Myself’ is about an unhappy childhood during the Second World War, the feeling of not belonging between Vienna and the Ausseerland, and a young half-orphan who defiantly exchanged her first name for the impersonal ‘Dieda.’ Renate Welsh's eponymous successful novel was first published in 2002 and is undergoing a literarily compelling revision in her new book. The original text has been enriched by the author with new questions and narratives, and as readers, we participate in a captivating dialogue about old wounds and comforting hope, literature, and the nature of memory. Renate Welsh, born in Vienna in 1937, grew up in Vienna and Bad Aussee. She studied English, Spanish, and political science, worked as a freelance translator and at the British Council in Vienna. She is the author of various children's and young adult books. She has received numerous awards and honors, including the Austrian Recognition Award, the Recognition Award of the State of Lower Austria for Literature, the German Youth Literature Prize, the Austrian State Prize for Children's and Youth Literature, the Theodor Kramer Prize, and the City of Vienna Prize for Literature."
