Maypole erection

On May 1st, the members of the Usseln Men's Club erect a Maypole in the village center. This traditional festival has been a staple in the club's program for years and is very popular among both the members and the visitors. The Maypole is gradually raised by the members using long "forks."

This is done in several stages and is a physically demanding task. Beforehand, the many carved wooden coats of arms of the individual Usseln clubs, along with their corresponding shield holders, are attached to the trunk of the pole. This creates a beautiful and representative decoration. Additionally, a specially wrapped wreath made of fir branches is secured high up on the trunk of the pole with the help of chains. Then the pole is ready for erection.

Meanwhile, there is plenty of provision for the numerous visitors and guests: sausages and steaks to satisfy hunger, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to ensure everyone's well-being. There is also a waffle stand run by the girlfriends of the Usseln boys, where one can enjoy a cup of coffee and indulge in one of the delicious waffles. The festival is accompanied by lively brass music and the notorious wood-sawing competition.
