Next to the house of the Jew Nachim in Krems - Jewish-Christian coexistence in Krems in the Middle Ages.

The first traces of Jewish settlement in medieval Krems date back to the mid-13th century. Within a few decades, these beginnings developed into the second-largest Jewish community in the Duchy of Austria, after Vienna. The Jewish women and men of Krems lived in close proximity to their Christian neighbors—a relationship that was characterized by peaceful coexistence for long periods, but which was repeatedly interrupted and ultimately destroyed by violent persecutions.

The lecture will outline this development and attempt to portray Jewish life in Krems in the context of medieval Austria.
