Kirche Kunterbunt is a church that focuses on families. Kirche Kunterbunt offers quality time for families and creates spaces of faith where the gospel can be experienced with all the senses. Kirche Kunterbunt sees itself as a "[fresh expressions of church](https://freshexpressions.de)," i.e., a fresh form of expression of the church. It focuses particularly on 5- to 12-year-olds and their caregivers. Young families, including godparents and grandparents, can experience community here, even if they have had little connection to faith and church in the past. Kirche Kunterbunt is inspired by the English version [messy church.](https://www.messychurch.brf.org.uk/) Kirche Kunterbunt starts with an inviting welcome time**.** This is followed by an activity time with colorful stations for different interests, followed by a celebration time with music, theater, and creative proclamation. The event concludes with a meal time, which invites everyone to enjoy a cheerful table fellowship. Each Kirche Kunterbunt event has a theme or biblical story. Our five core values **Hospitable**: We live a culture of welcome and warmly welcome newcomers. Cheerful table fellowship is actually an old Christian tradition and is being experienced anew. God is the host, and we are all his guests. **Intergenerational**: Adults learn from children. They often ask the honest and profound questions. Kirche Kunterbunt is not a children's program supervised by adults. The stations during the activity time and the celebration time appeal to both younger and older participants. **Creative**: Participation is very important at Kirche Kunterbunt. The basic attitude is not "we for you," but "we with you." A shared learning space opens up for discovering the Gospel with all the senses and in a very creative way. **Joyful celebration**: Kirche Kunterbunt is a charmingly chaotic "time out" from everyday life. Together we celebrate the presence of God. We experience community, enjoy food together, and discover how creative we are. **Christ-centered**: Kirche Kunterbunt is very open—and yet has a clear center. Faith in Christ is not presented in a didactic way, but creates community and can be tried and experienced without coercion.
